UGA Presidential Task Force on

Race, Ethnicity, and Community

The Presidential Task Force on Race, Ethnicity, and Community (2020) examined issues related to race, ethnicity, and community at the University of Georgia. The Task Force submitted to the Office of the President for consideration a number of concrete recommendations to improve the campus culture and strengthen the learning environment at UGA.

The Charge to the Task Force

The Task Force was charged with developing initiatives and actions that UGA might implement during the current academic year to foster a more welcoming and supportive learning environment for Black and other underrepresented members of our campus community.

UGA President Jere Morehead committed $1 million of private resources to implement promising ideas developed by the task force.

Specifically, the task force considered strategies to:

Build Community

Build community on campus

Elevate People

Elevate faculty, staff, and student recruitment and retention efforts

Develop Leaders

Expand training and leadership development opportunities

Increase Funding

Increase fundraising
in support of diversity and inclusion

Engage Alumni

Grow alumni engagement

The task force initiated its work.

December 2020

Final recommendations from the Task Force were submitted to the Office of the President for further consideration. Accepted recommendations will be announced by UGA in the coming months.
